We have been extremely happy with the quality and professionalism of iweb's FTP service. Easy to use both for us and our clients. Technically the service has been consistently solid and we have experienced no problems whatsoever. We would highly recommend them without hesitation.

FTP Account

FTP is an important technology resource for Webmasters. One of its many features is the ability to rapidly and securely upload files of all sizes. Text, photographs, graphics, and media files can be uploaded together as a group. This makes it convenient for Webmasters to view website changes and updates as soon as the files are uploaded.

The FTP client software on the personal computer connects to the host server on port 21. At the connection point, the host server authenticates the user name and password. As soon as the verification is complete, the connection, often called a conversation, is established. The user is now logged into the host server, and a data connection is opened. Data files, including text, graphics, photographs, and media can now be transferred from the client to the server. Files can also be retrieved from the host server and transferred to the personal computer. It is always the client software that initiates contact with the host server.

FTP clients ease the complication of file uploading. Sometimes a file transfer is interrupted due to a power flicker or other glitch. In the event a disconnection of the transfer occurs, the transfer resumes from the point of disconnection once the connection between the FTP client and the host server is reestablished. Size is not a problem when transferring files. Photography and media files are usually the largest files to be uploaded, and can be transferred in groups. They do not transfer as quickly as text files or small graphic files, due to their larger size.

When you are updating files already on the server, be sure to give the new updated files the same name as the files currently residing on the host server. The new files will overwrite the old files, and the website will be updated at the completion of the transfer of new files. The drop down menu makes it simple to select the right directory and folders for the file transfer destination. As each file upload is completed, that file takes its place in the html file of a web page. A single web page might have six files. These files can be a banner, two photographs, two graphic buttons, and the html page where these files will take their place with the text. Upon completion of the upload of all the files, the web page is uploaded and visible.
