iWeb FTP: FTP Hosting, FTP Space and FTP Storage

|

Here you'll find some of the most frequently asked questions from our users. If you can't find the answer your looking for here, please contact us or raise a support ticket in your account, and one of our team will get back to you shortly.

Can I create multiple FTP users?

Yes, each package contains a number of FTP user accounts that can be created. Each user account has its own private filespace separate from other user accounts. For example, if you deal with five external companies that you wish to share files with, you would create five users, each having their own username/password. Users are not able to see files stored in any other user account.

Is there any easy way to access files across all of my created users?

Yes, by default the administrator user has access to all of your created users files and folders. It is possible to assign administrator privileges to other user accounts that you create.

Can I receive upload/download notifications?

Yes. You can choose between upload only, download only, both or none. Notifications can be sent on a per user level and can be enabled/disabled for certain users. You can also have a catch all notification, so that if anything gets transferred on the server, you will be notified.

Can I access my files via a web interface / What is iBrowser

Yes. Our unique iBrowser was developed by us for users that find FTP a bit too daunting! Simply give your users the URL (e.g. http://www.myhostname.com), then they login with their username and password.

Can I personalise the iBrowser to match my corporate identify?

Yes. You can even personalise this download area with a custom banner and welcome message for your users. The same username and password will also work if connecting via transitional FTP client software.

Can the iBrowser and tradional FTP client software be used together?

Yes. The same username and password will work if connecting via transitional FTP client software or via our unique web based iBrowser interface.

Can I use my own domain name?

Yes. When signing up for an account (trial or live) we will assign a default hostname to the account (yourcompanyname.ftp1.iweb-ftp.co.uk), however you are more than welcome to point an existing domain or subdomain to the service. Simply raise a support ticket with the domain name you would like to use, and we will send you simple instructions.

How much disc space do I need?

When choosing an account, the disc space is the total amount of space you are allocated for your account. For example, if you buy a 500 megabyte account, and set-up 3 users, you can give them up to 500 megabytes each. Only when the sum of all the users actual "used space" goes above 500 megabytes will you be notified (we don't block accounts that go over quota, we just make you aware so you can clear some space, or upgrade your account).

How many users do I need?

Each user you create will have their own username and password which gives them access to their own private filespace. For example if you created two users, "bob" and "tom", they would have their own username/password to upload files into, but couldn't see files in each others folders. So, the number of users you will require is the total of all the seperate people you wish to share files privately with. If privacy is not an issue, you could have a single user login and share the username/password with many people.

Can the same user login at the same time from different locations?

Yes, this is called the number of concurrent users. As a guideline, the number of concurrent users (the number of FTP users connecting at the same time) is one third of the number of users in your package. However we are pretty flexible with this, so unless you're causing excess load on the system we'll let you get away with more.

Can I enable certain features for one user, and not for another?

Yes. You can enable limitations such as Admin, Readonly, Normal User, Email Notifications on a per user basis.

Can I have automatic notifications if a user on my account goes over his disc space?

Yes. This is done in the background by our processing systems. You do not need to request this as it is done automatically.

Will my connection speed be capped (limited)?

No. All connections are uncapped on our 100mbit network subject to our fair use policy.

Is there a minimum contract period?

We offer two contract periods, quarterly and annually. Annual accounts attract a 10% discount over the quarterly option.

If I start on one of the smaller accounts, can I upgrade?

Yes, we will simply charge you pro-rata between your current package and the new pacakage.
